TechNet Applauds Senator Reid's Decision to Postpone Vote on Anti-Piracy Legislation

WASHINGTON, Jan. 20, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- TechNet, the bipartisan policy and political network of technology CEOs that promotes the growth of the innovation economy, today applauded U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nevada) for his decision to postpone Tuesday's upcoming vote on the PROTECT I.P. Act in the Senate.

"We applaud Majority Leader Reid for his decision to postpone a Senate vote on the PROTECT I.P. Act," said Rey Ramsey, President and CEO of TechNet. "This is a wise decision given the fact that thousands upon thousands of individuals, businesses, mayors, entrepreneurs and countless others have weighed in this week in historic fashion against this legislation.  While everyone agrees that combating online piracy is important this measure unfortunately is not going to stop it.  It is too broadly written so that it will undermine the environment for innovation in America. Simply put, slowing down is the right approach so we can do this this right way. This course will enable everyone affected by this issue to be able to come back to the table to work together on a better approach that effectively combats online piracy without harming this incredibly dynamic information network."
