SAN DIEGO, Dec. 28, 2011  /PRNewswire/ -- Slacker, Inc. today launched three new Artist Showcase stations featuring songs hand-selected by bands and musical artists RJD2, The Parlotones and Blue October along with exclusive host commentary by the artists themselves. Songs by the bands and artists are also highlighted. All three stations are now available for free in Slacker's Artist Showcase station category.

Slacker's Artist Showcase stations are hosted and curated by the artists. They give listeners insight into the musical influences and personal stories of teenage rebellion, family memories and career triumphs of their favorite musicians. Artist Showcase stations are available exclusively on any Slacker Radio application. They feature a diverse and growing array of genres, further emphasizing Slacker's dedication to being the ultimate personalized radio and music discovery resource.

"Slacker's Artist Showcase stations give musicians the opportunity to share their music story through their own words and the tracks that have inspired them," said Scott Riggs, senior director of radio at Slacker. "Every musician brings unique stories, experiences and tastes to their station. No two Artist Showcase stations are alike."

DJ, producer and singer RJD2 was raised in Columbus, Ohio, where he got his start as a DJ and member of the Columbus rap group MHz. He later began a solo project and has recently gained attention for his score "The Beautiful Mine," the theme song of AMC's Mad Men. His Slacker station, RJD2 Radio, features bands and artists including David Bowie, Kanye West, Otis Reading and Grizzly Bear.

"Any place that you can stream both Louis C.K. and John Scofield is alright in my book," said RJD2. "Slacker is a great site for finding things similar to stuff you already know. The process of making my station actually helped me realize why I like some music I do. Bizarrely, I hadn't really thought about it for certain artists, so at times it was a learning experience for me!"

The Parlotones have been described by music fans and bloggers as one of the best South African rock bands, opening for Coldplay in South Africa and playing the 2012 FIFA World Cup kick-off concert. The Parlotones have also been involved in a variety of product endorsements including a collection of wines named after their music. Bands and artists featured on The Parlotones Radio include Muse, The Decemberists, Queen and The Smiths.

"We really enjoyed being on Slacker Radio. For me, there's nothing I like more than talking about the music I love. What could be better than talking about great music and then having a whole station made for it?" said Paul Hodgson, lead guitarist of The Parlotones. "I think on-demand radio is way cooler than normal radio. I don't like most of the music on 'normal' radio. On Slacker, I can play the music I like while being exposed to new bands in a similar vein."

Blue October is a platinum-selling rock band from Houston, Texas that formed in the post-grunge '90s and just released their latest album, Any Man in America, in August 2011. The band joined with To Write Love On Her Arms and PostSecret last year for the Pick Up the Phone Tour to spread suicide awareness. Blue October's Artist Showcase station includes bands and artists like Michael Jackson, Band of Horses, YelaWolf and Phil Collins.
