OraStream Allows Listeners to Enjoy Full Range Streaming Audio on a Variety of Devices Without Frustrating Delays Due to Buffering
SINGAPORE, Nov. 10, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- MP4SLS, a Singapore-based company dedicated to reshaping the delivery of digital audio entertainment, today announced the launch of a new digital audio format that allows listeners to experience high-resolution streaming audio via smartphones and tablets, without concern for delays due to buffering and other anomalies associated with limited bandwidth.
Dubbed OraStream, the new technology allows for Digital Long Play apps (DLP), which feature a miniscule digital "footprint" of only 300 Kb to 1MB, delivering a combination of high-fidelity audio streams that adapt streaming rates based on observed network conditions. The result is a seamless listening experience with high-resolution audio files that are adjusted as network conditions dictate, without the end-user missing a beat. OraStream is based on the MPEG-4 Scalable-to-Lossless System (SLS) audio codec, which allows for fine-grain scalable to lossless audio compression method. An adaptive streaming server delivers MPEG-4 (.mp4sls) audio files in real time over the Internet and mobile networks via a common HTTP protocol.
When the streaming server detects the coding algorithms of the bit streams, it "truncates" the appropriate streaming rate depending on network connectivity conditions. The adaptive streaming server works with existing, standard HTTP web servers without affecting other functions.
