CA Technologies Delivers Same-Day Support for IBM's Next-Generation Mainframe Operating System

CA Mainframe Chorus, CA Mainframe Software Manager and Company's Extensive Portfolio of Mainframe Solutions Back IBM z/OS v1.13

ISLANDIA, N.Y., Sept. 30, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- CA Technologies (NASDAQ: CA) today announced "Day One" support for IBM's next generation z/OS® v1.13 across its extensive line of mainframe management software solutions, including CA Mainframe Chorus and CA Mainframe Software Manager (MSM) continuing to deliver timely support for new releases of IBM® System z® hardware and operating systems.

"Our same-day support reflects our commitment to helping customers maximize the value of IBM's next generation Mainframe platform with our next generation Mainframe management capabilities," said Dayton Semerjian, general manager, Mainframe, CA Technologies. "As both companies continue to innovate, we will work together to deliver on this objective."

Today's announcement arrives on the heels of record worldwide adoption of the mainframe for its long term economic value, energy efficiency and performance benefits. Specifically, mainframe maker IBM reported in the second quarter that over the past four quarters, System z revenue went up 49 percent year to year and MIPS (millions of instructions per second), the amount of mainframe computing power purchased by clients, was up 59 percent.

CA Mainframe Chorus, a key deliverable in CA Technologies strategy of helping customers reduce costs, simplify management and improve operational efficiency, supports the new z/OS release, offering a role-based integrated management workspace, rich data visualization, a modern GUI, and advanced knowledge capture and transfer capabilities.

CA Mainframe Software Manager, another pivotal product in simplifying mainframe management, helps customers more easily acquire, install, deploy, configure and maintain mainframe products. CA Mainframe Software Manager can also ease the upgrade process and accelerate time-to-benefit as customers move to the new z/OS operating system.

CA Technologies has also implemented support for IBM's SMP/E FIXCAT HOLDDATA to facilitate identification of CA product maintenance required for compatibility with z/OS v1.13, and actively engages in the early testing of z/OS and support for mutual customers participating in IBM's early testing programs.

In addition, CA Technologies recently delivered same-day support for IBM's new, innovative zEnterprise model z114 hardware and introduced new capabilities for managing Linux on System z.

"CA's same day support of the new z/OS demonstrates the industry ongoing demand for mainframe services.  This announcement also proves that the mainframe's ecosystem of software solutions continues to expand, offering more flexible options for mainframe users worldwide," said Greg Lotko, vice president and business line executive for System z at IBM.
