IP Infusion Extends Position as the De Facto Standard in Software-based Networking with ZebOS 7.9

Helps OEMs and Service Providers Innovate at Breakneck Speeds; Supports Evolving Data Center, Mobile Backhaul and Carrier Ethernet Requirements

SUNNYVALE, Calif., Sept. 27, 2011/PRNewswire/ -- IP Infusion, Inc., a leading provider of intelligent network software for enhanced Ethernet and IP services, today extended the company's leadership in software-based networking with the release of ZebOS 7.9 network platform software. The newest technology advancements in ZebOS software help networking OEMs worldwide deliver customized and differentiated solutions to telecom as well as public and private cloud service providers with lower costs and faster time-to-market. Solutions built on IP Infusion's ZebOS software help customers avoid product commoditization, improve return on investment and eliminate network bottlenecks.

"The future of networking is software, and IP Infusion is the de facto standard for software-based routing and switching software platforms," said Koichi Narasaki, president and CEO of IP Infusion. "For more than a decade IP Infusion has provided a software platform used in mission-critical networks in mobile backhaul, carrier transport and data center networks. The latest additions to our ZebOS software will help customers stay ahead of the innovation curve, enabling them to quickly adapt to changing market requirements."

In ZebOS 7.9, IP Infusion specifically addresses the evolving requirements for data center networking, mobile backhaul and Carrier Ethernet.

--  Data Center Networking - ZebOS 7.9 implements the data center bridging
extensions to accelerate the transition from Fibre Channel to FCoE in
Storage Area Networks (SANs). IP Infusion is also delivering TRILL
(Transparent Interconnect of Lots of Links), which eliminates the
problems associated with using the Spanning Tree Protocol in a data
center network. TRILL enables optimization and load balancing of
over-subscribed data center switches and network paths.
--  Mobile Backhaul - ZebOS 7.9 provides the Mobile Backhaul Implementation
Agreement for Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF)--MBH IA. These capabilities
supports a wide-range of implementation options with the goal of
supporting more cost effective delivery of mobile services by moving
from an entirely legacy RAN network to Ethernet. Moreover, ZebOS helps
equipment providers accelerate the deployment of evolved 4G
(Ethernet-based) voice, video and data services by supporting a variety
of circuit emulation methods, including pseudo-wire support for ATM/HDLC
emulation. With the addition of IEEE 1588v2 Precision Time Protocol
(PTP) support, network equipment providers can deliver sub-microsecond
        clock accuracy.
--  Carrier Ethernet - ZebOS 7.9 offers new capabilities to accelerate the
transformation to Carrier Ethernet. This includes implementation of the
MEF 13 and MEF 20 specifications that define standard services, and open
the door to interoperability of networking equipment. To improve
manageability, ZebOS implements new service management capabilities,
including support for MPLS-TP, providing a reliable packet-based
technology for transport networks. Specific protocols implemented:
        Service management: MPLS-TP--5654, 5960, RFC 5586 (OAM), RFC 5921;
Quality of service: MEF 13 and MEF 20.

Software - The New Networking Paradigm

The pace of innovation in networking is changing how the industry looks at designing, developing and building networks. Service providers target the introduction of new services every six months. On-time delivery of new services contributes significantly to revenue and profitability, with 95 percent of telecom providers seeing a direct correlation between time to market and revenue. The pace of new service delivery requires innovation in the underlying network; however, the pace of innovation in traditional networking equipment is not keeping up with demand. Today one in three service providers fail to achieve delivery targets. The complexity of the technology, inflexibility in existing systems and processes are a major inhibitor to timely service delivery.

To address these challenges, the networking industry is rapidly moving away from the hardware dominated solutions of the early 21st century to a network defined by software platforms. This change is necessary as the industry innovates at breakneck speeds to accommodate billions of new mobile users, the advent of Big Data, and the emergence of IT as a service. The wide-spread availability of commercial networking chipsets changes the economics of the network, driving commoditization of hardware and the emergence of software defined networking. IP Infusion is at the core of this networking evolution.

"With the telecom market changing so rapidly, OEMs are requiring network solutions that are not only fast and cost-effective but also deliver unique value and capture new revenue opportunities - a tall order," said Ray Mota, managing partner, ACG Research. "Software-centric networking solutions such as IP Infusion's ZebOS can help service providers meet this challenge by delivering networking solutions easily and quickly, which helps them maintain their competitive edge."

The De Facto Standard in Software-Based Routing and Switching

In ZebOS, IP Infusion provides a comprehensive routing and switching software that has been deployed in five 9's networks across five continents for more than a decade. IP Infusion's architecture enables network equipment providers to take advantage of commercial network switch chips to reduce costs and improve performance. The solution also enables customers to develop once and then easily port to new hardware for price and performance improvements without rewriting their routing/switching software. By providing an integrated software offering, IP Infusion improves time-to-market by reducing the amount of development required by the customer.  Unlike homegrown or open source solutions, the IP Infusion solution is tested, verified, and requires fewer customer resources.
