Extentech Launches ExtenXLS 10.1 Now With Scalable Vector Graphics Charting

Upgrades for the Java Spreadsheet Solution Include Enhanced PDF Export and Powerful New Formulas for Optimized Excel-Compatible Spreadsheets with Live Data

SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 30, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Extentech, a leading developer of Java components and development tools, announced today the launch of ExtenXLS 10.1, a significant update to the industry's leading Java spreadsheet SDK.

ExtenXLS is the fastest and most reliable Java spreadsheet toolkit for reading, writing, and generating Excel spreadsheets. Unlike similar toolkits, ExtenXLS 10.1 offers web-browser compatible SVG charting, giving users fast, scalable, vector graphics for real time, data rich spreadsheet reporting.

No browser plug-ins are required to display these dynamic SVG charts within web pages as the SVG Charting output from ExtenXLS is supported by the latest browsers. SVG is an XML graphics format that works across Firefox, Internet Explorer, Chrome, and Safari. For legacy browsers VML Chart output is still available from ExtenXLS.

Additional new features introduced in the 10.1 update include the ability to export spreadsheet containing charts in PDF format, performance tweaks, and enhancements to sheet protection and locking to be more Excel-compatible.  Additionally, several popular new formula functions were introduced, such as NORMINV, NORMSINV, NORMDIST, NORMSDIST, and ERF.

Several performance enhancements present in ExtenXLS 10.1 include the new workbook "parser" that allows improved event-driven document review for read-only sessions where new data does not need to be introduced. Additionally, XLSX and OOXML fidelity has been improved specifically in working with Excel 2010 and encrypted spreadsheet files.

"We are continually updating ExtenXLS to provide the most functionality for developers and to ensure that it remains the top choice of enterprises that need reliable and fast spreadsheet capabilities without vendor or platform lock-in," said John McMahon, CEO of Extentech. "With our new SVG charting output, we give customers a better way to present spreadsheet data, with rich and up-to-date web-based charts. Our system renders charts very quickly, so busy users don't need to wait for their charts and spreadsheet data to display, allowing everyone to work more efficiently."
