Climate Savers Computing Launches New Website, Grows to 700 members

Consortium achieves record growth after expanding to drive more energy efficient networking equipment

PORTLAND, Ore., Aug. 23, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Climate Savers Computing Initiative (CSCI), the international consortium focused on reducing the energy consumption and carbon footprint of computing and communications equipment through power management and more energy efficient computing technologies, today announced the launch of its new website and record growth of Affiliate and Associate memberships.

The new CSCI website is a comprehensive resource for helping businesses and people realize the environmental and financial benefits of power management and energy efficient computing. The site highlights how CSCI and its partners have already helped decrease CO2 emissions from computing equipment by 32 million to 36 million metric tons, which is equal to more than $2 billion in annual energy savings.

With its recent expansion into energy efficient networking, CSCI estimates that the global IT industry can offset 38 million metric tons of CO2 emissions by 2015 through the development and deployment of more energy efficient networking equipment. With Broadcom Corporation recently joining CSCI's Networking Workgroup to collaborate with other members to advance highly efficient networking equipment, CSCI has now grown to nearly 700 members.

"CSCI is growing because our members are industry leaders in driving sustainability through the development and deployment of greener and more energy efficient ICT," said George O. Goodman, executive director, CSCI. "We encourage everyone to leverage the many tools on the new website, and to take part in the global effort to reduce the energy consumption and CO2 emissions of computing by becoming a CSCI member."
