Walden University Offers New Online Information Systems and Information Technology Master's Programs

New Graduate Certificate in Information Systems credits may be applied to master's degrees

MINNEAPOLIS, June 22, 2011 /PRNewswire/ --Information technology is one of the fastest-growing sectors in the U.S. economy, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Walden University is offering two new online master's degree programs,anM.S. in Information Systems and an M.S. in Information Technology, to help meet the growing demand for qualified IT and IS professionals.

Walden's M.S. in Information Systems focuses on the use of technology to generate, process and share information within an organization. Students learn ways to use information technology to enhance decision making and organizational effectiveness; explore the theory and practice of information security and data protection; and plan, manage and implement relevant and appropriate technologies. Students in the program can prepare for potential job opportunities such as computer systems analyst, computer database manager, information systems architect, computer software programmer and applications designer and engineer.

The M.S. in Information Technology program balances theory and the practical, real-world experience required for key information technology positions.Students explore emerging opportunities in the field tocreate, maintain and secure information systems. The program, offering specializations inInformation Security and Software Engineering, is designed to prepare students for senior-level or leadership positions in engineering, programming, security and systems architecture, including positions incomputer software engineering, information technology security, network/systems administration and programming.

Walden is also introducing a new online Graduate Certificate in Information Systems to help students gain the skills they need to transition to a career in the high-growth fields of information systems and information technology. Credits from this five-course certificate program may be applied toward Walden's M.S. in Information Systems or M.S. in Information Technology.

The new programs join Walden's portfolio of degree programs for both experienced IT professionals seeking to expand their skills as well as students with little or no technical experience looking to enter the field.
