The University of Southern California's Rossier School of Education Releases a Mobile Version of its Groundbreaking MAT@USC Learning Management System

The feature-rich learning system for iPads and iPhones is the first of its kind released on behalf of an elite research university program

LOS ANGELES, March 28, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- The USC Rossier School of Education today announced the release of a native application for the iOS platform, which brings the groundbreaking online learning platform for the MAT@USC program to the iPhone and iPad.

The application allows MAT@USC students to access all of their course work and information - including pre-recorded videos - and interact with fellow students and faculty members, while taking full advantage of the user interface benefits that the iOS platform provides.

The MAT@USC is one of the first Master of Arts in Teaching programs delivered online by an elite research university.  The program blends highly-interactive online learning with extensive fieldwork in each student's local area.  The expansion of the program onto the iOS platform represents the latest step in the program's evolution and increases the already-unrivaled flexibility of a program of this type.

"This new app gives our MAT@USC students the ability to do their learning from almost anywhere, while preserving the quality of the learning environment our faculty and administration have worked so hard to create," said USC Rossier Dean Karen Symms Gallagher.  "This is a big step forward for the program, our school, and teacher education."

The application, developed for the MAT@USC through a partnership between USC Rossier and 2tor Inc., and specifically allows students to:

--  View course materials, including lessons, documents, and videos
--  Find and connect with other members of their program
--  Interact with colleagues and instructors through the posting of
        photographs, documents and videos
--  Get notified of upcoming live sessions and assignment due dates
    --  Participate in socially-created communities
--  Take content-specific notes that sync back to the web-based platform

About the MAT@USC Program

The MAT@USC is the fastest growing teacher preparation program -- on-line or on-campus -- at a not-for-profit university or college. A collaborative effort between the University of Southern California's Rossier School of Education and 2tor, Inc. an educational technology company, the MAT@USC combines the most cutting-edge immersive digital technologies with a USC-customized curriculum, faculty and field-based in-classroom experience. MAT@USC students earn a Master of Arts in Teaching degree from a tier-one research university, and new teachers are recommended for a teaching credential. The program requires the same strict admissions criteria as USC on-campus programs, has the same tuition requirements, and offers the identical services and resources.
