MyEdu Introduces Program to Help Tennessee Colleges Increase Graduation Rates

NASHVILLE, Tenn., March 22, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- MyEdu - an established academic platform for college students - announced a partnership program designed to help Tennessee universities and community colleges increase their on-time graduation rate.

Tennessee is shifting state funding for higher education institutions that graduate more students - a performance-based funding model(1) - instead of automatically granting money to larger universities - an enrollment based model.

MyEdu specifically designed their partnership program to give Tennessee schools a free option to help with on-time graduation rates, degree completion, block scheduling and managing transfer-credits.

"Performance-based funding only works when institutions have the tools to assist in meeting college completion goals," said Karen Holst, VP of Corporate Marketing for MyEdu, "The free services MyEdu provides to partner campuses will help institutions meet their goals without draining their budget."

The following applications are included in the partnership program to increase academic success:

Degree Planner: Interactive tool to understand required courses for
     degree completion
Credit Manager: Track college courses to see how credits transfer from
     one Tennessee institution to another
Degree Timeline:  Semester-by-semester plan to spread out difficult
     courses for balanced course workload
Course Fit: Analyze course data, reviews and professor grading patterns
     for best-fitting class selection

(1) Performance based funding model: Tennessee institutions will be rewarded money based on degree completion, time to degree, transfer rates, the number of degrees awarded, or the number of low-income and minority graduates. Traditionally colleges and universities receive funding based on enrollment. One hundred percent of performance-based funding eventually will be tied to course completion and other performance indicators instead of to course enrollment. Because this is the first instance of large-scale performance-based funding, results are not yet known.
