Governor Quinn Signs Illinois Internet Tax Law, TechAmerica Committed to Supporting Continued Innovation in Illinois
CHICAGO, March 10, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Governor Quinn today signed into law the controversial internet affiliate marketing tax, HB 3659. TechAmerica has remained dedicated to advocating on behalf of the affiliate marketing and tech community at large in Illinois to prevent this legislation from becoming law.

"We are of course disappointed with this decision, given the definitive data on the ineffectiveness of this proposal from other states," said TechAmerica Executive Director Ed Longanecker. "We are committed to finding a solution that will minimize the negative impact of this legislation to support continued innovation and job growth for this critical industry in Illinois."
Twelve states have rejected similar proposals in recent years, and several others are seeking to repeal their internet tax laws due to job losses, constitutional concerns, and the negative impact on state revenue. The affiliate marketing language in HB 3659 was introduced and passed in both Houses all within thirty hours of the last legislative session.
