3LCD Achieves Projection Industry Milestone: 70 Million Chips Shipped

LOS ANGELES, Feb. 9, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- 3LCD ended 2010 on a high-note by marking yet another major milestone in the projection industry.  This past month, 3LCD celebrated being the first projection technology in the world to surpass the 70 million chips shipped mark.

3LCD is one of the choice technologies powering projectors in the education, business and home theater space.  First introduced in 1988, the technology has consistently contributed to innovations in image quality, road-tested reliability, energy efficiency and overall performance, and the 3-chip design delivers vibrant, true-to-life images with high Color Light Output.

As an industry veteran with more than two decades of experience, 3LCD continues to be the choice technology for projection needs worldwide, and has support from some of the biggest names in the business.  In 2010, 3LCD showed continued leadership in the Americas front projection market among traditional projector buyers(1) - those looking for projectors touting 500 Lumens or more.

"This past year has been extremely active and exciting for us, and we had the opportunity to make a number of major innovation announcements," said Rina Bhuva, senior strategic marketing manager for 3LCD.  "Earlier this year we announced the world's first 3LCD LED projector and world's first Reflective HTPS liquid crystal chip for 3LCD, and this shipping milestone of 70 million chips is another testament to the support of our manufacturers and customers, without which we could not continue to thrive."

3LCD continues to offer a number of technology advantages over the competition, including:

    --  3-Chip Optical Engine:  All 3LCD projectors use a 3-chip optical engine
to deliver incredibly bright, true-to-life color.
--  High Color Light Output:  3LCD projectors deliver high Color and White
Light Output so images, video and text always look their very best.
--  No Color Wheel:  3LCD projectors do not rely on a spinning color wheel
to produce color and do not suffer from "the rainbow effect" or "color
        break-up."
--  Road-Tested Reliability:  3LCD technology has consistently been the
choice of users who demand long-life performance and reliability.
