Hitpost Inc. is Building the Next Generation Sports Network

Backed by prominent investors, new startup is creating a sports community that brings together user generated content, photo sharing and community captioning with up-to-date scores and highlights, exclusively for the web and mobile platforms

SAN FRANCISCO, Jan. 5, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Hitpost Inc. today announced its plan to build a next generation sports network, enabling fans to instantly capture their favorite moments in sports, rapidly report them to their network of friends, and browse up-to-the-second sports action, over the web and mobile platforms. The company is taking sports content to a whole new level through geo-location, Facebook Places and HTML5 technologies creating a visual, always-on sports experience. The result is a unique sports community that offers a hyper-localized experience for each user based on their individual preferences, wherever they go.

"The Hitpost sports network brings together user generated content, photo sharing and community captioning with up-to-date scores and highlights, turning sports content into a digital community for friends and fans," said Hitpost CEO Aaron Krane. "The Hitpost community lets fans share and tell their own stories with their friends in a highly visual and in-your-face instant way that can only be delivered through web-based platforms."

The first product in the Hitpost portfolio, Snapshot, a digital sports magazine created in partnership with the premier sports publisher, Sports Illustrated (TWX), received rave reviews after its launch on the Chrome platform last month.

The excitement for the Hitpost offering was not limited to sports fanatics, but shared by an all-star team of initial investors who are helping to fund the development of future products.  Among them include, Khosla Ventures, RRE Ventures, Keith Rabios, Shervin Pishevar, Naval Ravikant, Josh Stylman, Kal Vepuri, Eileen Burbidge and Stefan Glaenzer.

"I invested in Hitpost because it's taking a bold approach to delivering web-based sports content that goes beyond what currently exists in the market," said angel investor, Keith Rabios. "Hitpost is tackling a huge market at the right time, and if the team continues to execute boldly, they've got a shot at becoming the first real, independent competitor to ESPN."

Hitpost will launch its next products available on the Droid and iPhone platforms later this month.
