Visteon Brings Smart Connectivity Solutions Into the Vehicle

LAS VEGAS, Jan. 5, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- To provide smart connectivity solutions in vehicles while addressing the growing need to minimize driver distraction, Visteon Corporation (OTC: VSTO) has developed a range of electronics products, services and applications designed specifically for the automotive market from a driver-centric perspective.

At the 2011 International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Visteon is demonstrating its scalable open source infotainment platform that is slated to launch later this year. Its design allows vehicle manufacturers the flexibility to offer customers an embedded connectivity solution with optional features and services such as off-board navigation and remote diagnostics, as well as a suite of consumer-focused applications that can be downloaded after vehicle purchase.

"With the significant growth in smart phones and other personal connectivity devices, vehicle manufacturers are looking for innovative solutions that allow users to access content on their mobile devices in a safe and controlled manner while in their vehicles," said Christian Feltgen, global director of cockpit technologies for Visteon's electronics group.

"Working with both Intel and ARM-based designs, Visteon has set a new benchmark in infotainment solutions that will align with new software standards developed through the GENIVI Alliance - of which Visteon is a founding member," Feltgen added.

Visteon is working with other technology providers to bring active screen replication solutions that can control exactly what and how content is displayed. This enables the vehicle manufacturer to maintain a vehicle user interface that allows the driver to stay focused on driving.  Additional solutions are under development that help manage the driver's mobile phone while the vehicle is moving.

At CES 2011, Visteon is showcasing a range of smart phone applications that support connectivity solutions. Examples include applications that convert a mobile phone to a remote device for music apps like Internet radio and traffic apps such as Visteon's own TrafficJamCam. Available for purchase on the iTunes® online store, TrafficJamCam lets users see current traffic conditions on highways and other major roadways of their choosing, faster and more accurately than typical radio updates or other traffic reports. This allows them to plan or change their driving routes based on current traffic or road conditions.

In addition to higher feature infotainment systems, Visteon also offers entry level solutions such as the hands-free, voice-activated Bluetooth® wireless solution that enables users to send or receive calls or play music directly through the vehicle's audio system using convenient steering wheel controls.

Visteon is a leading global automotive supplier that designs, engineers and manufactures innovative climate, electronic, interior and lighting products for vehicle manufacturers. With corporate offices in Van Buren Township, Mich. (U.S.); Shanghai, China; and Chelmsford, UK; the company has facilities in 26 countries and employs approximately 26,500 people.
