Verizon Business Helps Smooth Transition to the Next Generation Internet Protocol

New Professional Consulting Services Help Pave the Path to IPv6 for Government, Industry

BASKING RIDGE, N.J., Dec. 8, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- To ensure that the Internet, which is rapidly running out of Web addresses, can continue to support the needs of business, a smooth transition to the next-generation Internet Protocol Version 6 is vital.  To help businesses and government agencies around the world accomplish this, Verizon Business is introducing a series of new professional consulting services.

According to the latest figures from American Registry for Internet Numbers, less than 3 percent of Internet Protocol version 4 (IPv4) Web addresses remain available in the global pool.   While enterprises may realize they need to make the transition to IPv6 - which will make available an almost unlimited number of Web addresses -- the process can be complicated and daunting.

The new Verizon IPv6 Transition Professional Services are designed to help organizations navigate through the complexity to assess, plan and implement IPv6 readiness across global extended enterprise systems.

Verizon IPv6 Transition Professional Services span the IPv6 implementation lifecycle and feature:

--  IPv6 Impact Assessment and Gap Compliance Analysis -- Verizon IPv6
experts can take stock of an enterprise's physical and logical
configurations and network and security architecture; identify
compliance and operability needs; develop pre-deployment and testing
plans; and validate network requirements so the migration is successful.
--  IPv6 Transition Planning -- Verizon consultants can develop a
comprehensive transition strategy that incorporates logical
implementation phases, cost and timeframe considerations, and effective
architectural, planning, testing and validation processes.
--  IPv6 Implementation -- Verizon can implement IPv6, both physically and
logically, across systems and networks.  Verizon provides thorough,
dedicated project management of every aspect of the implementation
process, including configuration documentation, testing, training, and
        process improvements.

"Global organizations can no longer sit on the sidelines, maintaining a wait-and-see position toward IPv6 deployment," said Anthony Recine, vice president of networking solutions for Verizon Business.  "It's our obligation to help ensure that we - along with our business and government customers - are taking the appropriate steps now to prepare for the inevitable depletion of IPv4 addresses in 2011.  Verizon's deeply rooted expertise in operating and maintaining global IP networks and improving application performance makes the company ideally suited to help facilitate a seamless transition for our customers."

Verizon IPv6 Transition Professional Services are available to businesses and government agencies around the world, effective immediately.
