Study.Net Foundation Launched

SAN DIEGO, Nov. 23, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- Study.Net Corporation today announced the launch of Study.Net Foundation, an independent non-profit organization.  The new foundation will support the development of innovative online learning content; and subsidize the purchase of required electronic course material by college and university students.

According to Jay McGoodwin, a Foundation board member, "This is the fruition of an idea that my colleagues and I have discussed for years.  We're in a position to lead the way toward something that could have a lasting impact.  Through our pioneering work with the delivery of electronic material, we are very aware of the opportunities and the needs.  To match our enthusiasm, Study.Net Corporation will make an initial gift to jump-start the Foundation."

The Foundation also plans to raise funds from a variety of philanthropic sources to support two initiatives.  Through the first, Study.Net Foundation will award financial grants to selected content creators and authors of innovative web-based, electronic learning material.  The goal is to encourage and support the development of effective learning products that can be delivered online and used by students, worldwide.

The second initiative will address the growing cost of academic course material by encouraging electronic delivery and directly subsidize student purchases.  On the basis of an application and need, the Foundation will selectively assist college and university students with the purchase of electronic course content through an award of up to $250 per student per term.

The Foundation's board expects to name an Executive Director shortly and begin awarding content development grants and material purchase awards by the first of the year.  Study.Net Foundation's website can be found at: http://foundation.study.net.  Content creators can apply directly for consideration of a development grant.  Similarly, students can apply online for a purchase award that can be used to obtain required web-based academic content.

Study.Net Corporation has been a leader for the past decade in the field of online content delivery for higher education students.  More than 8,000 professors at greater than 900 colleges and universities worldwide have registered to use the company's free services that allow electronic content from practically any source to be quickly assembled and delivered securely to students on the device of their choice.  The company maintains offices in the US and Europe.
