NewsGator Announces New iPhone, iPad Apps for Social Sites 2010

Enterprise 2.0 employees can enjoy rich SharePoint-based social computing through their preferred mobile devices

DENVER, Nov. 16, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- NewsGator today unveiled powerful new apps that extend the rich social computing experience of NewsGator Social Sites 2010 to employees who use iPhones and iPads.

The new iPhone app and iPad app for Social Sites 2010 offer native, browserless social computing experiences consisting of all the content and professional interaction available in a user's desktop environment.

This includes interactions enabled by the recently announced News Stream for Social Sites 2010 and Idea Stream for Social Sites 2010 solution packages. If these packages are activated on the customer's corporate server, iPhone and iPad users can fully leverage their capabilities from home, the road, or the workplace.

If News Stream is enabled, for example, iPhone and iPad users will see news and article headlines streaming onto their mobile device behind a "Me" tab. They can click on any article link and see the full article including images and video.

If the Idea Stream is activated on the home server, users can formally propose ideas to peers, communities, and structured Social Sites campaign workspaces as well as vote on others' ideas - again, with all the functionality of a user at a desktop.

Importantly, these iPhone and iPad apps provide deeply integrated access to SharePoint content libraries, including documents, pictures, contacts, tasks, announcements, bookmarks, and more.

"Mobile is an increasingly important computing platform, and SharePoint is clearly the business collaboration platform of choice," said Brian Kellner, NewsGator's vice president of products. "These iPhone and iPad apps close the loop by making SharePoint and Social Sites accessible  for anyone through their mobile device, including devotees of the unique Apple experience. Social computing should be ubiquitous, and that's what we're enabling through these apps."

The new apps build on NewsGator's track record in the Apple world, including the creation of the award-winning NetNewsWire RSS feed reader app for the iPhone and iPad, and the TapLynx software development kit, offering the easiest way to create an iPhone app. NewsGator also offers the full-fledged Social Sites 2010 experience on RIM's BlackBerry devices.
