WARREN, N.J., Nov. 12, 2010/PRNewswire/ -- Verizon Wireless, provider of the nation's largest and most reliable 3G network, today announced the activation of eight new New Jersey cell sites in Flemington, Franklin, Hoboken, Middletown, Packanack Lake, Ridgefield, River Edge and Wayne. Wireless calling, text messaging and mobile Web surfing are now easier and faster for residents and visitors in these communities.

--  Flemington, NJ, (Hunterdon County) serves an area from Thatchers Hill
Road south toward Meadow Lane, and from Park Avenue west toward Hinkly
Road. The site was specifically designed to help improve in-building
coverage in downtown Flemington, including Mine Street, Old Croton Road
        and North Main Street
--  Franklin, NJ, (Somerset County) serves Lincoln Highway (Route 27) from
Beekman Road to Westminster Road, as well as for two miles along South
Middlebush Road from Claremont Road to Skillmans Lane
--  Hoboken, NJ, (Hudson County) improves coverage in the northern section
of the city from 5th through 15th Streets, as well as along Paterson
Plank Road east toward Park Avenue
--  Middletown, NJ, (Monmouth County) serves the Garden State Parkway from
Exit 114 to Exit 109, as well as Middletown/Lincroft Road from Front
Street to beyond Bamm Hollow Road. It also covers Dwight Road/Nutswamp
Road from the Garden State Parkway to Poicy Pond
--  Packanack Lake, NJ, (Passaic County) serves most of the valley area,
including Route 23 between Packanack Lake Road and Alps Road, as well as
from Ryerson Road east toward Ratzer Road
--  Ridgefield, NJ, (Bergen County) serves the residential areas in
Ridgefield between Bergen Boulevard and Shaler Boulevard, as well as
from Greely Avenue to as far north as Slocum Avenue
--  River Edge, NJ, (Bergen County) serves an area from 5th Avenue east
toward Boulevard, as well as from Tenney Avenue south towards Route 4
--  and Wayne, NJ, (Passaic County) serves the intersection of Hamburg
Turnpike (Route 504) and Alps Road as well as the Preakness Shopping
Center, Berdam Shopping Center, Wayne Hills Mall Shopping Center, and
        the surrounding residential areas.

The expanded coverage and increased data capacity enables customers in these areas to enjoy clearer reception, fewer dropped calls and quicker download speeds when using their wireless devices to talk, text, email, view high-quality videos and access VZ Navigator's turn-by-turn directions.  Additionally, these network enhancements further boost Verizon Wireless' network reliability, particularly during emergencies such as power outages and extreme weather conditions when wireless communications are needed the most.  These new cell sites are part of Verizon Wireless' aggressive multi-billion dollar network investment each year to stay ahead of the growing demand for the company's voice and data services.

"While we already have the largest and most reliable 3G network in the country, we're constantly working on ways to bolster the coverage area and provide our customers with the best service possible," said Pat Devlin, president New York Metro Region for Verizon Wireless. "With the huge increase in the number of Android and other smartphone owners, coverage and data capacity is now more important than ever.  Verizon is making sure that we stay ahead of the game by continually adding cell sites and capacity to ensure fast and reliable service to all of our customers throughout New Jersey and the entire New York Metro area."

Nationally, one hundred real-life Verizon Wireless' test men and women drive more than 90 specially-equipped vehicles nearly one million miles each year on the country's most frequently traveled roadways to confirm that voice calls and data connections are successful on the first attempt and stay connected.  Vehicles are equipped with computers that automatically make more than three million voice call attempts and more than 16 million data tests annually on Verizon Wireless' network and the networks of other carriers.
