The Answer to Security Problems: RFID Systems at Black Hat Abu Dhabi

ABU DHABI, UAE, November 4, 2010/PRNewswire/ --     Of all of the topics to be covered at Black Hat Abu Dhabi, the
one that impacts the most industries is probably RFID, affecting everything
from hospitals and transport companies to hotels and airports.

Insecure RFID implementation on Passports and Government ID
Documents for Automatic Immigration (E-Gates) is perhaps one of the most
serious security risks, and can result in faked documents and stolen
identities, however, vulnerabilities in the RFID system can have serious
consequences for any industry.

The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority represented by the
UAE Computer Emergency Response Team (aeCERT), in cooperation with Khalifa
University of Science and Technology with UBM, have brought to the Middle
East, Black Hat which brings together experts and companies in the IT
security field to discuss the latest in IT security issues, trends, and
solutions, including how to identify vulnerabilities within RFID systems.
Black Hat will take place from the 8th to 11th of November 2010 in Emirates
Palace.

Lukas Grunwald, CTO of DN-Systems Enterprise Internet
Solutions GmbH, will be speaking on 'RFID Enabled Passports and Government ID
Documents', a presentation showcasing the risks of "Insecure" RFID
implementation on Passports and Government ID Documents for Automatic
Immigration (E-Gates), as well demonstrating how easily a identity could be
stolen. An overview of already existing electronic ID will be given, as well
as a showcase of the developments of the new German eID with Multi-Usage for
government, legal and private use, for Parking-Meters, home banking and
e-commerce.

Adam Laurie, a freelance security consultant working in the field of
electronic communications, will be discussing 'RFID Security' in a
presentation on how RFID is being heralded as the answer to many security
problems, such as access control, vending, and biometric identification, and
how effective it really is. This talk will specifically look at the details
of the ICAO 9303 Machine Readable Travel Document standard, and discuss what
safeguards and improvements it provides.

Black Hat Abu Dhabi will take place from the 8th to 11th
November 2010 at the Emirates Palace, and will include a wide variety of
intensive technical presentations, delivered by the leading thinkers of the
information security world. The event will also provide hands-on, multi-day
training sessions on the latest in IT security trends and techniques, while
the Black Hat Briefings will offer an opportunity for industry experts to
share their experience and knowledge with other professionals.
