Fly.com Eliminates Airline Baggage Fee Confusion

Airfare Search Engine Introduces Feature Listing Baggage Fees

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Nov. 1, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- Fly.com(TM), the world's easiest-to-use airfare search engine, now lists baggage fees for major airlines.  This is a hot topic for travelers as millions of Americans get ready to check bags this holiday travel season. The new feature, appearing within the search results of Fly.com, clearly lists fees for each flight, helping travelers assess the true cost of their journey.

"Baggage fees are very confusing and costly.  Travelers with bags should definitely research before they book if they want to save money," said Justin Soffer, vice president and general manager of Fly.com. "For example, non-stop flights from New York to Ft. Lauderdale this December on American Airlines, Delta Air Lines and JetBlue Airways currently cost just $100 one way.  On the surface, all prices are equal.  But American charges $70 for two bags, Delta charges $55 and JetBlue charges $30.  So the real prices for passengers with two bags can vary by as much as $40.  That isn't so obvious when you take an initial look at the ticket price."

Soffer also added that travelers may save even more money by paying for baggage fees online instead of at the airport.  Fly.com lists the fee differences between advance and airport purchase.

Fly.com's new feature provides baggage fees for thousands of domestic and international routes, including all major U.S. carriers.  The fee information is updated when airlines change their baggage fees or policies.

Fly.com is not a travel agency and does not take bookings; it compares prices and itineraries from hundreds of airline and travel websites and recommends to travelers the best options for their search. The service is free to use and available at http://www.fly.com/.

Fly.com's other easy-to-use features include:

--  Fare calendars to help travelers find the best prices over a range of
        dates.
--  Real-time Twitter fare alerts for flights from more than 40 U.S. cities.
--  Easy-to-use filters that help users sort results in seconds, including
number of stops, departure times and airline alliance preferences (i.e.
        Oneworld, Star Alliance and SkyTeam).
