SUNNYVALE, Calif., Oct 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Spansion Inc. (NYSE: CODE) today announced its new SpansionĀ® FL-K Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI) Flash memory product line (S25FL-K) with small-sector architecture.  The Spansion FL-K family provides support for designs requiring uniform 4-kilobyte (KB) small sectors.  The complete Spansion SPI product portfolio now spans densities from 4-megabit (Mb) through 256 Mb, offering one of the most extensive SPI portfolios on the market.

The Spansion FL-K family provides fast erase times to improve system performance for applications which require storage of small blocks of code and data.  This feature is beneficial for certain implementations within consumer printers, DSL and cable modems, DVD players, LCD TVs, and set-top boxes.

"The addition of the Spansion FL-K family reinforces our commitment to provide customers a complete portfolio of SPI products," said Avo Kanadjian, vice president, marketing for Spansion.  "We plan to support low-density small-sector SPI applications in addition to continuing our focus on serving the high-density and high-performance needs of our customers."

Spansion FL-K Flash memory features:

--  Full voltage range: 2.7 to 3.6V read and write operations
--  Fast 104 MHz clock rate with support for single, dual, and quad serial
I/O data transmission for over 50 MB/s throughput
--  Uniform 4KB sector architecture, with support for 64KB sector erase
--  Erase/Program Suspend and Resume, previously supported only on parallel
        NOR Flash memory
--  Continuous Read mode for execute-in-place (XIP) operation
--  Security registers with OTP lock down
--  Set Burst with Wrap command to improve overall system code execution

The new Spansion FL-K family is ramping production with product shipping today.  The 16 Mb device, which has the highest demand, is in full production and available in 8-pin SO package (208 mils lead pitch) and a narrow-body 8-pin SO package (150 mils lead pitch).  The 32 Mb and 64 Mb devices are available in the 8-pin SO package (208 mils lead pitch).  The 4 Mb and 8 Mb devices will be available in both 8-pin packages in December, 2010.
