AFA Recognizes National Cybersecurity Awareness Month

ARLINGTON, Va. Oct. 6 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Air Force Association joins the nationwide campaign to encourage cybersecurity caution and protection during the 7th Annual National Cybersecurity Awareness Month, sponsored by the National Cyber Security Division (NCSD) within the Department of Homeland Security.

This year's Stop. Think. Connect. Campaign brings a national public awareness effort to lead the nation to a higher level of Internet safety by challenging the American public to be more vigilant about practicing good "cyber hygiene."

In recognition of the month-long initiative, AFA will be promoting public awareness of cyber threats with tips and guidelines to maintaining a safer online presence through their official blog, http://www.airforceassociation.blogspot.com.

"National Cybersecurity Awareness Month is a great initiative to educate millions of Americans on the many cyber threats out there," said Mike Dunn, president and CEO of AFA. "Hopefully, through this national campaign, citizens will gain a greater sense of cybersecurity."

AFA understands the importance of cybersecurity and holds it in its mission to promote education on the matter. With CyberPatriot, the nation's largest and fastest-growing high school cyber defense challenge, AFA is investing in the protection of the nation's cyber infrastructure. CyberPatriot calls attention to one of the nation's most critical needs by exciting, educating and motivating the talent who will become the country's next generation of cyber leaders.

The registration deadline for CyberPatriot is October 8, with the first preliminary rounds starting October 23.

AFA's CyberFutures Conference and Technology Exposition in April also highlights cybersecurity. The conference will focus on critical cybersecurity policy choices facing the nation - choices that will determine the national security and prosperity in an increasingly interconnected world.

Check back at the Air Force Association blog throughout the month to get tips on cybersecurity.

The AFA is a 501(C)(3), nonprofit organization promoting public understanding of aerospace power and the pivotal role it plays in the security of the nation. AFA has over 200 chapters nationally and internationally representing 120,000 members. Visit AFA http://www.AFA.org.
