MEXICO CITY, Sept. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- NAVTEQ, the leading global provider of maps, traffic and location data enabling navigation, location-based services and mobile advertising around the world, announced today at the ESRI Latin America User Group Conference the availability of Intermediate Map sets for Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Jamaica, and Panama.  Covering combined, approximately 320,000 kilometers of roads and 67,000 Points of Interest, these products are a separate class of map data to support NAVTEQ customers interested in utilizing location information to make better business decision or introducing location-based services (LBS) and routing applications in emerging geographic regions.

Providing Support for a Growing Tourism Industry

The Caribbean Islands and Central America enjoy immense popularity as tourist areas.  With these areas continuing to attract visitors worldwide, Intermediate Map sets are an important tool for customers who need a faster time-to-market in these key regions.  Allowing for basic route calculation and location analysis, Intermediate Map sets enable solution providers to meet the growing demand for trip planning and routing applications and enable businesses to utilize location information to analyze their potential.

"The launch of Intermediate Map sets in the Caribbean and Central America is an important milestone toward the achievement of NAVTEQ's strategy to provide broad coverage in the region.  The growing tourism market and its importance to the economies of the region place product development in this area high on NAVTEQ's priorities list.  We look forward to further map rollouts in the region," says Fernando Villasol, NAVTEQ Director for map and content, South America.
