BOVAP - A Stock Market for Political Values

An Online Platform Aims to Help A New Generation of Voters Become More Aware of Their Country's Politics & Finances

SAO PAULO, June 14 -- This electoral year, Brazil will focus its attention on choosing the leader to keep the country on its positive financial track. To engage a new generation of voters and enhance their financial awareness, the stock brokerage firm Souza Barros launches BOVAP (http://www.bovap.com.br) -- an online stock-trading platform in which users can buy and sell shares of politicians just as they could company shares. The website features shares of the main contenders for President and State Governors.

BOVAP, acronym for Stock Market for Political Values, carries the potential to spearhead changes in Brazil by informing on investing while also provoking political discussion, and heating up debates on democracy2.0, and Internet and political transparency. The transactions on BOVAP, made with a fictitious currency, will indicate how much politicians are worth according to public opinion and contribute to the development of a Brazilian political index.

"The goal is to enhance the public's financial awareness, offer new ways to discuss political issues and show opinions shaped in the form of a trading mechanism," states Lucas Mello, LiveAd's CEO, who developed the project. "People want to be heard all the time, not only during the elections; BOVAP will provide that."

"We believe in the growth of Brazil and we know that this private initiative must work hard for this vision to become reality," explains Carlos Souza Barros, Souza Barros' President.

In the first month, more than forty-five million people were exposed to coverage related to the project. More than one million Twitter users were impacted with content regarding the project and thousands of people learned to use Souza Barros' online tool. In addition, BOVAP sparked a constructive nationwide dialogue about politics and is helping voters make better financial choices.
