Huawei P8 lite Smartphone
Huawei may not be a household name in the US, but the P8 lite combines a nice form factor with excellent battery life and a minimal Android skin. If you can deal with a potential lack of updates, it is a good buy.

Final Verdict

The Huawei P8 lite retails for $190 (Amazon) at the time of this review. It is a good buy for the price if you can handle the caveats. Huawei will not say if this P8 lite will see any Android updates past Android 5.1 and the removal of band 12 service is a negative. The P8 lite can support band 12, but it was removed with the latest update with no explaination. The 2200mAh battery is long lasting and the Emotion UI that Huawei uses on the P8 lite is faily minimal over the stock Android experience, but we are not a fan of the launcher.

Thankfully, Google Play support means you can easily download another launcher of your liking and take it from there. All in all, the P8 lite is a great form factor in a market trending towards as big as possible. The 720p 5" screen provides sharp enough details at a good size. The Snapdragon 615 coupled with 2GB of RAM yielded excellent performance with no real slowdowns. The 16GB of memory combined with a SD card slot means you've got enough expandable storage as needed. While the dual SIM feature is nice, we don't see most US buyers ever using it. This is a totally unlocked phone and even the bootloader is unlockable as it should be.

ASE Publishing would like to thank Huawei for sending the P8 lite for review.
